June's Guest Designer

One of the best parts of choosing guest designers is finding someone who you didn't know was out there and then being totally blown away by their work. That's how it was for me when I opened Melanie Robson's submission package.

This lady can STAMP!! When I called Melanie, she was so excited! I could hear her doing the happy dance right through the phone. What she didn't know was that I was doing that same happy dance on my end because I had found another fantastic stamper to learn from!

I always let our guest designers choose the stamps they want to work with. I remember looking at Melanie's choices and one stood out. She ordered the "Three Amibos." That stamp is one of my favorite stamps because it's just so silly but I don't give it a lot of attention and I couldn't imagine what Melanie was going to do with it, given her other selections. But once I saw it, I just laughed out loud!

Card details:
Fish gotta' swim......Summer Sun, Cool Caribbean, More Mustard CS, Gina K's Wood Graining technique and a Cuttlebug embossing folder; true Thyme stitched ribbon and linen thread.  Colored w/ Prisma Pencils and Gina K Designs Odorless Mineral spirits

Melanie created all of that wood using the faux wood graining technique from my blog and tied those posts with hemp. I love that! When I turned that line from the movie "Finding Nemo" into a stamp, I thought it was funny but it's way funnier when you look at those poor little Amibos thinking that they are dinner. LOL!

This next card knocked my socks off.

I really love the little sea creatures from my new summer line. In fact, I must have been missing that ocean something fierce because I kept on drawing things from the sea. I sat one day and tried to get all of those guys in one card and I just couldn't make it flow. So when I saw Melanie's second card, it was a real 'pop in the forehead' moment!

Her masking is absolutely amazing! She got every one of those little guys in on this card and it flows so well! I love how she creatively used the greeting stamp and made it into two sections. And her coloring is superb! (She makes my mineral spirits look so good!!! LOL!)

Card details
From our castle.....Gable Green, Cameo Coral, Bashful Blue, Black, W White CS; SU's Ticket and Word Window punches; American Crafts ribbon and self adhesive rhinestones and a Cuttlebug embossing folder; I masked the castle then stamped and masked the other sea creatures; all are colored with Prisma Pencils and Gina K. Designs Odorless Mineral Spirits.

The creative use of punches is always something that makes me feel like a card sample was worth clicking on! I am a punch freak, as you all know, and Melanie really knows how to make me want to buy yet another one.

Card details
I sea it's your birthday.....Rose Red, Cameo Coral, Black, Shimmery White and Vanilla CS; Polka Dots and Paisley DS paper, Fiskars Corner Punches; I also used a Polka Dots and Paisley stamp to stamp the background; Marvy Mega and Giga Scalloped Oval punches; Seafood Surprise was colored with Prisma Pencils and Gina K. Designs Odorless Mineral Spirits, the bucket has stickles on it for some added shimmer;  I added "polka dots" to the brads with a sharpie pen; sheer ribbon and silver cording.

Don't you love the way she glittered up that pail with stickles glitter glue?? It's those little details that makes Melanie's work so special.

Melanie's last card is just beautifully done.

I am a huge fan of prima flowers. Her use of the flowers really works so well with the scalloped circle punch.

Card details:
Need A Hand......Bashful Blue, Apricot Appeal, Cameo Coral and Gable Green CS;  Water color paper (for the octopus) she was colored with watercolor crayons and added stickles for some "bling";  Cuttlebug D'Vine Swirls embossing folder, Prima Flowers and an oval bookplate; ribbon from American Crafts and self adhesive rhinestones and the Marvy Giga and Mega circle scalloped circles.

Melanie went above and beyond to create these beautiful, timely card samples to share with all of us. I visit her blog just about every day since she started it a few months ago. She's got a great sense of style and a fabulous eye for color. I love to see a stamper throw in a few techniques here and there and I'm still trying to get over the wooden posts tied with hemp! Too much!

All of the stamps used here today are available at stampingfreak.com and other retailers nationwide. (Visit our official home page to find retailers near you. Check often as we are adding new retailers everyday!)

I've included the bio that Melanie sent me so you can get to know this talented lady a little better. I encourage you to stop by her blog. Mark it in your favorites. You won't be disappointed! AND- She's got some fabulous blog candy going on right now that you're not going to want to miss!

Thanks so much for stopping by to visit our guest designer page! Feel free to drop a comment here to let Melanie know what you think of her efforts!

I'll see you back here next month with another fabulous guest designer who is already working hard on her spot!

Hugs,
Gina K.

About Melanie Robson:

My name is Melanie Robson; I'm 40 years old, married to a wonderful man Greg and have two boys Brandon 16 and Ryan 12. Yes, I am surrounded by men!  I am a licensed Esthetician and a Massage Therapist, who is fortunate enough to have my office at home.

My family doesn't "get" the whole "stamping" thing, but they know it makes me happy and they tolerate my obsession!!  I'm a lucky gal.

I have always been a "crafty" person for as long as I can remember.  Back in the 1990's I was really big into creating wreaths, swags, decoupaged items, and baskets...I could go on....I even taught general crafting classes at our local AC Moore for a while, but, I didn't even know that stamps and papers existed!!!

I pretty much stopped creating anything between the years of 1998 to 2004.  In October of 2004 I was invited to a stamping workshop....my eyes could not believe what one could create with some stamps, paper and ink!  That was the beginning of the end. It has been a pure addiction ever since.  My stamping area is proof of that!!

I love rubber stamping for many reasons.  I don't think of myself as an artist (one who can draw) but I don't have to be, because the images have done the work for me.  I love the fact that I start with some raw materials and am able to transform them into a fabulous creation. I love trying different techniques in my creations and there are so many out there to try.  Rubber Stamping has become a creative outlet for me.  I have a great need to do things with my hands.

I don't think I have a particular style in my stamping, I guess it depends on my mood at the time and what stamp set happens to get pulled from the shelf.  I enjoy creating cards from the simple to the complex.  That is the beauty of this craft.

I also incorporate my stamps and papers when creating 3-D items and functional pieces like notebooks, journals, pens etc.....

I guess I consider myself mainly a rubber stamper and paper crafter.  I have not really delved into the world of scrapbooking as of yet, perhaps someday I will.

Rubber Stamping is a craft for everyone at any skill level!!  That's why I Love It!!!
