May's Guest Designer

I was so thrilled that Sarah Moore joined us as the Gina K. Design's guest designer for May. I asked Sarah to give me a little insight into her creative journey and personal life.
Sarah shared with me that she has been artsy all her life. Her interests cover a wide range; from jewelry/metal work, lapidary, polymer clay, embroidery, cross stitch, machine quilting, sewing, painting, collage, mixed media, writing, stamping and scrapbooking. She attended Columbia College in Chicago and studied Jewelry and Arts Marketing. Her real life jobs have ranged from fine art sales to emergency medical technician and marketing at an assisted living facility. She is now a stay-at-home mom and spends her free time working on artistic ventures.
Sarah lives in Elgin, IL with her husband, Rick, and their son, Anderson, who will be three in June. She is an Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, and has done freelance design work for Hampton Arts and Sideshow Stamps. She was just selected to be on the new design team for Tuscan Rose. Her 2007 goal is to become a published stamp artist.
This first card sample that Sarah submitted is near and dear to my heart. She used the Autism Stamp Set, "Love you to pieces." Sarah was kind enough to provide the recipe for each of the projects she made.

STAMPS: Love you to pieces. PAPER: So Saffron, Palate O’Prints Designer Series Paper Sampler by SU!, Whisper White. INK: Certainly Celery, Rose Red, So Saffron, Basic Black, Versamark. ACCESSORIES: Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder, Black Brads, Black Gingham. Note the puzzle pieces stamped in celery ink on the celery toned designer paper. Larger Puzzle pieces are embossed in Iridescent Ice Embossing powder. Sentiment is stamped twice to create a shadowed effect; once in Rose Red, Once in Basic Black. A stamp-a-ma-jig was used to achieve this.
I always love the colors Sarah chooses. Her cards are always bright and fun!The next project that Sarah made uses one of my favorite stamps, the lighthouse. I love the way she did the sky, water and land!

STAMPS: Lighthouse, You light up my life. INK: Basic Black, Summer Sun, Brilliant Blue, Going Gray, Bashful Blue. PAPER: Real Red, Green Galore, Whisper White. ACCESSORIES: Small adhesive Rhinestone (brand unknown). “Light beam” was created by masking off the area with post it notes and sponging on ink.Waves and clouds were sponged on as well; cloud stencil was made with circle punches. Wave stencil was cut my hand. Lighthouse and “island” was paper pieced together to create a solid bold look.
This last project had me giggling! It's such a creative use of another Gina K. Designs classic stamp- the pig.
That poor little muddy pig! But when you open the card, he is magically transformed!

Isn't that the cutest thing??
STAMPS: Pig, Whenever I’m a Mess… INK: Chocolate Chip. PAPER: Designer Paper (retired) by SU!, Chocolate Chip, Pretty in Pink, Bashful Blue, Whisper White. ACCESSORIES: Transperency Sheet, Brown Sharpie Marker, Pig Ribbon By Michael’s, Clear Button by SU!, Pink Gingham Ribbon by SU! Scalloped frame is created with the use of a Slit Punch. Tutorial on my Blog here…http://stampstars.blogspot.com/2007/02/slit-punch-coluzzle-scalloped-circle.htmlAfter frame is in place, “mud” is doodled on with a brown sharpie marker. Snout on Pig inside is punched out with a ½” circle punch for a perfect fit! Pig is stamped on pink Cardstock and cut out.
It is such a delight to know Sarah. We've talked on the phone a few times, bantered on Splitcoaststampers and emailed back and forth. Sarah's creativity goes without saying. She always has an encouraging word and never excludes newer stampers in any of her ventures.Sarah' Craft Critique Blog is a wonderful and unbiased resource. She and her Craft Critique team always have some new product, tutorial or links to share where you can learn a lot about the products you want to buy and better ways to use the ones you already have.
I'm so glad that Sarah inked up a few Gina K. Designs stamps and decided to be a guest designer! Her samples are rock-star quality and so it she!
